Commonly
speaking, Normalization is a process adopted in exams for adjusting values
measured on different scales to a notionally common scale. The process of
Normalization is applied to evaluate the performance of all the candidates on
the basis of similar exam parameters. In SSC exams, there are differences in
difficulty level of question papers shift-wise and so marks scored by
candidates in various shifts vary. The difficulty level of each shift is
decided by the subject experts and specialized team, appointed by SSC.
The main
factor of calculating the difficulty level will be average marks of each
shift.
Recently
speaking, Staff Selection Commission has delivered official notifications
regarding Normalization in all Exams. In this official notification, they
have revealed a formula for Normalization that will be used to calculate final
score of candidates in multi-shift examinations. It has been experienced that
difficulty level vary in SSC’s conducted multi-shift exams and this makes
impact in final score of the candidates. The answer to this problem is
Normalization and it’s important to understand its application, usage and
importance in SSC exams in detail.
What do we mean by Normalization in SSC Exams 2018-19?
- The biggest merit of Normalization is to deliver
maximum justice to all the students. So, it’s a process which will adjust
values that are measured on different scales to a notionally common scale.
- Normalization in SSC exams are done to evaluate the
performance of the candidates on the basis of similar exam parameters. The
main objective of Normalization is to adjust the difficulty level across
all shifts of the exam.
- Commission has clarified in its official notifications that marks scored in Tier-I and Tier-II exams will be normalized.
- The formula for Normalization will be decided by specialized team appointed by the Staff Selection Commission.
- The marks scored by the students and the number of valid questions can be taken as input. It can adopt any of the formula for the Normalization process.
- Normalization has eased out the pressure of students and they can now expect free and fair results from SSC.
- This process will implement evenness in the score, in case there is difference in difficulty level of various shifts of the SSC CGL EXAM. It is done because it is unfair to analyze and compare the performance of candidates who have attempted reasonably difficult question paper with candidates who have attempted easy question paper.
- Average marks scored by the candidates in the easy
shift will be compared to those who had taken difficult shift and then the
marks will be adjusted according to the formulas set by the BOARD.
- Formula will be according to the valid questions in
the various shifts to balance the level.
Staff Selection
Commission is taking a crucial step towards the normalization to give maximum
justice to all the candidates. There is no need to worry about the good or bad
attempt in case you have a difficult question paper as compared to the other
shifts. It will definitely improve the result and give confidence to the
students. It will benefit all the candidates therefore work hard and make
